hello ! it's totally fine if you don't read this :)

it's just that i'm having exams this two months and it's getting to my head.
i know i shouldn't be complaining about this as it's partly my fault and it seems petty compared to other problems going on around the world.
but the stress is really getting to me i'm starting to talk to myself. which is scary. so i have to type it out. cause i don't feel like talking to anyone. but typing it out makes me feel less like a weirdo. heee.

it's been the most stressful month of my life i have to say. there's days where i stay up til 5am studying for the exam i'm having the next day. there's days where i breakdown crying for no reason due to exhaustion. there's days where i study til i'm down with a fever. i'm a weak person :( this isn't the course for me :'(
i guess you're wondering, why the hell is she studying at the very last minute then?
to be honest, i did start a few months back. but for some reason i can't seem to remember what i've studied at all. so by the time my exams are here, i'd be studying everything from scratch again. i don't get it. whats wrong with me? this is the hardest i've studied ALL my life, so why isn't it paying off? whats wrong with me?

take today's chemistry exam for example. it's the second time i'm taking it cause i wasn't satisfied with the results i got the last semester. i really prepared this time, revising weeks beforehand but when i opened my book in the morning, i couldn't remember most of what i learnt. whats the point of me studying then? when did i become such a failure? i'm starting to feel like it's pointless studying so hard when i can't do the papers anyways.

i have ten days before my next paper. i'm mentally exhausted, my eyes are begging me to stop reading and my hands ache from writing notes/answers. i'm sorry if i sound like i'm exaggerating but i'm not exactly the kind of student who can ace papers easily. plus there's that problem of me taking all these pre-med subjects which i'm not interested in and not going to use when i pursue Law. which reminds me of the deadline to accept my university offers. yes, offers ! at least i managed to get offers from 4/5 of my applications. debating between City, Cardiff & Manchester now. then again i still have to meet the requirements which im doubtful about. i'm such a useless daughter, lucky enough to have parents who are willing to pay for me to have an education in UK, yet i might not even make the grades.

so many things running through my mind. I NEED A BREAK.
i'm already exhausted from taking so many papers so right now i'm debating whether i should just give up entirely or try my best.
i guess i'll try my best. at least then i'll fail with no results. hah i'm so optimistic (:

ah i feel a lot better now :) i feel like since i've typed this out, i can put it at the back of my mind and forget it for now so i can concentrate on studying :) also i think this is the longest i've ever posted haha.

wish me luck,
waiyan :)

Biology Unit 1.4

NUCLEIC ACIDS

Structure of nucleotide

Formation of nucleotide

1-Pentose sugar

Either ribose or deoxyribose

Ribose = RNA , Deoxyribose : DNA

2-Nitrogenous base

Purine : AG

Pyrimidines : T

RNA = AGUT

DNA = AGTC

3-phosphoric acid

Gives nucleic acid acidic characters

Pentose sugar + nitrogeneous base = nucleoside + water

Nucleoside + phosphate = nucleotide + water

Formation of nucleic acids

Condensation – 2 nucleotides join to form dinucleotide

Process repeated to form phosphodiester bridge

DNA replication

Semi conservative- half will be conserved

Each strand acts as template for synthesis of complementary strand

Enzymes involved =

  • Helicase – unwinds double helix DNA
  • DNA polymerase – adds nucleotides
  • DNA ligase – forms phosphodiester bonds between short strands of nucleotide

Stages of DNA replication

  1. DNA helicase unwinds DNA
    1. RNA primer binds to start of DNA segment
    2. RNA primer produces a few RNA nucleotides which binds to the template
    3. DNA polymerase adds the complementary nucleotides and binds the sugar & phosphates
    4. RNA primer replaced by DNA bases
    5. DNA polymerase adds complementary nucletides to the other side of the ladder
    6. DNA bases added continuously in one parental strand
    7. 2nd strand synthesizes DNA in Okazaki fragments which are finally joined together by ligase
    8. One = leading strand
    9. Other = lagging strand

Biology unit 1.3

Enzymes
-globular proteins

-hydrogen bonds, ionic bonds, disulphide bridges holds the AA in 3D shape

-binds with substrates with complimentary shape

- lock and key hypothesis =

substrate + enzyme in active site > enzyme substrate complex > enzyme product complex > products leave active site

  • Activation energy = energy needed to start reaction
  • Factors affecting enzyme activity =
  • temperature : temp increase, Ke increase, successful collision increase
  • ph : optimum pH needed
  • concentration of enzyme and substrate : increase til max activity
  • inhibitors : two types; non competitive & competitive
I'm a bit excited. discovered that i can make pretty tables using microsoft word :D makes bio slightly more interesting !

Biology Unit 1 : Lifestyle, Transport, Genes and Health

found my unit 1 notes i typed out last time so posting em here for fun :)
BIOLOGICAL MOLECULES
Water molecule
carbohydrates
slightly polarised,
able to form hydrogen bonds,
place for biochemical reactions to take place
between H and O (covalent bond),
between H20 and H20 (hydrogen bond),
attract other charged particles (because it has slightly positive + negative charge),
Transport medium in and out of cell.
Contains C, H, O
-monosaccharides
Α and β glucose (learn to draw)
-disaccharides
Formed by condensation, broken down by hydrolysis
(hydolysis- addition of H20, condensation- eliminate H20)
-polysaccharides
Long chains of monosaccharides joined by glycosidic bonds (condensation)
triglycerides
proteins
Fats/oils/type of lipid
Insoluble in water
C,H,O,N
Made of glycerol & fatty acids (learn to draw)
Used as energy store, compact
Insulator, buoyancy, protect internal organs, waterproof covering, prevent dehydration in plants
C,H,O,N (and sometimes sulfur + phosphorus)
Built from amino acids
-amino acids (learn to draw)
Has amino group + carboxyl group + R + H
3 types = neutral, acidic, basic
Colorless, soluble in water, insoluble in organic solvent
Liberates H+ ions to AA group, exist as zwitterions, amphoteric, act as buffers (because of amphoteric properties)
*PH= depends on no. of free H+ ions in solution
-3 structures = primary (linear)
Secondary (folding of polypeptide)
Tertiary ( further folding, hydrogen bonds, ionic bonds, hydrophobic interaction, disulphide bonds)
Quartenary ( 2 or more polypeptides)

Maroon 5 KL

went for Maroon 5's concert with Jeremy :)
thanks @walauwei for the last minute tickets :)!

waiyan's birthday !

it was my birthday morning, 20th April :)!
it was a weekday so i went to college as usual :)
thennnnn ''surpriseee!'' :') damn i love my classmates <3
it's the simple gestures like this that make you feel loved :')

what i saw greeting me at 8am :)! love them to bits !
was utterly surprised when they showed up one by one giving me the letters haha.

when i reached my class they surprised me with a cake and a birthday song <3
and flowers and a card ! WAS SO HAPPY :D

thank you guys, i love youu ! :)

photos from my birthday dinner coming soon ! :)

also today's my last day at HELP University College.
I had an incredible one and a half years here :')
but no worries ! i'm definitely going to keep in touch with all the amazing people i've met here :')

til then,
